Frequently Asked Questions

What happens if I miss a loan payment?

Pawn loans have an agreed loan period. If the loan isn’t resolved during that time, the item may eventually become forfeited according to state regulations.

Life happens. If you’re running late, come talk to us. We work with customers every day to help them resolve loans and reclaim their items when possible.

Do I need an appointment?

No, walk-ins are welcome. Feel free to call ahead though if you have any questions.

What if I don’t like the offer?

You are free to decline — no pressure!

How do you decide value?

Based on Condition, Demand and Current Market Price.

Customer protection, legitimacy and legal compliance?

We follow state-required holding periods to protect customers and ensure all items are lawfully owned.

Why some items aren’t immediately available

To protect our customers and the community, state law requires a short holding period on items that are sold or pawned before they can be resold.

This process helps ensure all items are lawfully owned and gives buyers confidence that what they’re purchasing has been properly verified. During this time, items are securely stored and documented according to legal requirements

What happens to pawned items?

When an item is pawned, it is safely stored and you have a set period of time to reclaim it. If the loan expires, the item does not immediately go up for sale. State regulations require an additional waiting period before resale, ensuring a fair and transparent process for everyone involved.

How can I tell if my gold is real?

Short answer: there are a few simple signs you can check at home, but accurate testing requires proper tools.

What you can look for yourself

Many gold items have small markings or stamps, often on the clasp or inside a ring. These markings indicate purity, such as:

  • 10K
  • 14K
  • 18K

Not all real gold is stamped, but stamps are a good first clue.

The magnet test (what it tells you — and what it doesn’t)

Gold is not magnetic, so if an item is attracted to a magnet, it is not solid gold.

However, this test alone is limited:

  • An item that doesn’t stick to a magnet could still be gold-plated or mixed with other metals.
  • The magnet test can rule things out, but it can’t confirm purity.

How we professionally test gold

At Crazy Pawn, we use a proven, industry-standard testing method commonly called the scratch test.

Here’s how it works:

  • A small mark is made on a testing stone
  • That mark is treated with different testing solutions, each matched to a specific gold purity
  • How the mark reacts tells us whether the gold meets, exceeds, or falls below that purity level

This method allows us to determine gold content accurately and safely, without guessing.

Will testing damage my item?

No. The test is done carefully on an inconspicuous area and does not affect the value or appearance of the piece.

Is testing free?

Yes — gold evaluations are free and obligation-free. You’re welcome to ask questions and take time to decide.
